Hi! My name is Cooper! And I'm super duper ;)
I was found as a stray and went into the rescue when no one came to claim me. I’m happy-go-lucky, frisky, engaging, smart, and cheerful and I can't think of anything better than getting love and attention from my family! In playgroups, I am friendly and play well with others who also like to play though I can sometimes a bit much for the senior dogs. I can be shy with new people, but warm up quickly.
My favorite treat is almost ANYTHING! I love treats! My foster parents have helped me to learn manners or what we call 'Petiquette' but I have a tendency to be a bit pushy and can play a little much for the older dogs. I’ve already learned to use a doggy door and I enjoy hanging outside in the backyard during the day. My foster mom said she was happy that I haven’t tried anything destructive while on my own.
When I meet new people I can be shy but warm up quickly. I like to take my time approaching new situations. While I am a bit shy with new faces and places, I warm up as I become more familiar with my environment. When my people leave, I tend to whine for a bit, then I’m okay. I like my kennel but it takes me a little bit of time to become comfortable before bedtime.
On the other hand, I can also be very protective of my hoomans and my home so I will need some reassurance and command training to know when others are okay and to let my guard down.
My foster parents have been working with me to learn sit/stay/come/loose leash walking, etc. I respond well if told No, and I’m a quick learner as I figured out how to use the doggy door just by watching the other dogs! I am kennel trained but I have only used a crate to travel in. I tend to whine a bit at first, then I enjoy having my personal space.
I still need some help with my manners and learning and I would do well with some additional positive reinforcement training. Some of the things that I still need to work on are (sit, stay, leash training, accepting strangers while on a leash but I go into my kennel for treats!) My foster parents have observed me at play and feel that I would be good with other small/medium dogs who enjoy playing a good game of zoom-zoom! I really enjoy playing, and would love to entertain you with my antics! Going for walks, engaging in play, and doing outdoor activities with my new family daily would make me very happy!
So the long and the short of it is, I need an experienced person who uses positive reinforcement and can be patient with me as I learn manners and appropriate engagement. I can be an only dog or live with another dog that is smaller than I am, I don't like dogs that are bigger than me. Also, though I look like I would be great with kids, an active home with older respectful positive kids may be okay or but no kids is preferred.
