Reptile Adoption Process at SBRSC

At SBRSC, we are dedicated to finding forever homes for our reptiles—homes where they will be loved as pets and valued as part of the family. We seek adopters who are prepared to take the necessary steps to ensure their new companion thrives in a happy, healthy, and enriched environment.

All of our reptiles go through a thorough process before being made available for adoption, including:
✔ Quarantine & Health Assessment – Ensuring overall well-being.
✔ Behavioral Assessment & Modification – Addressing temperament and handling needs.
✔ Socialization – Exposure to handlers to ease transition into a home.

Adopters will receive any available medical records and foster parent observation reports to help them better understand their new pet from day one.

Adoption Fees: $75 - $250 (cash or check)

Step-by-Step Adoption Process

1️ - Submit an Online Application – Complete a quick application for the reptile you’re interested in by clicking the Adopt tab.  The application button is located in the pet profiles at the bottom.

2️ - Phone Interview – Schedule a 30-minute phone interview to discuss your experience and expectations.

3️ - Prepare Your Habitat – Over the next two weeks, set up an appropriate habitat or enclosure using our helpful guides under the Resources tab.

4️ - Virtual Habitat Check – Once your setup is complete, book a quick Zoom tour to showcase your enclosure, ask questions, and receive final guidance before adoption day.

5️ - Sign the Adoption Agreement – The agreement will be sent via DocuSign prior to adoption day.

6️ - Adoption Day! – Schedule your pickup date to bring home your new family member. We will take photos and videos to celebrate the moment!

7️ - Finalizing the Adoption – Once you’ve picked up your pet, we will complete our part of the adoption agreement.

8️ - Microchip Transfers (if applicable) – If your new pet has a microchip, we will update the registration two weeks post-adoption to list you as the primary contact (to avoid additional transfer fees).
