Dog Adoption Process at SBRSC

At SBRSC, we are committed to finding forever homes for our special dogs—homes where they will be cherished as family members. We seek adopters who are prepared to invest time and patience, allowing our dogs to transition at their own pace to ensure a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.

Many of our dogs come from shelter environments where they struggled behaviorally and needed extra time and support—time that shelters often cannot provide.

While in our care, every dog undergoes:
✔ Quarantine & Health Assessment – Ensuring overall well-being.
✔ Behavioral Assessment & Modification – Addressing behavioral challenges.
✔ Socialization – Exposure to people and other dogs to ease transition into a home.

All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and most have had full dental work completed. Adopters will receive medical records and foster parent observation reports to help them better understand their new companion.

Adoption Fees: $150 - $500 (cash or check)

What’s Included in Your Adoption Package

At minimum, every adopted dog will go home with:
🐾 Collar, SBRSC ID tag, harness, poop bags, and leash
🐾 Crate (safe space), dog bed, blanket, and toys
🐾 Sample of food for easy transition, dental bones, supplements (if needed), and training treats

Additional items may include:
✔ Training treat bag, lick mat, clicker, and treat delivery tool
✔ Travel crate or seatbelt buckle
✔ Thundershirt
✔ Potty pads, shampoo, and ear cleaner

Step-by-Step Adoption Process

1️ - Submit an Online Application – Complete a quick application for the dog you’re interested in by clicking the Adopt tab.  The application button is located in the pet profiles at the bottom.

2️ - Phone Interview – Schedule a 30-minute phone interview to discuss your experience, expectations, and lifestyle.

3️ - Sign the Adoption Agreement – The agreement will be sent via DocuSign prior to adoption day.

4️ - Schedule a Home Introduction – This visit allows the dog to see your home as a safe place while still in the presence of their foster parent. Be prepared for this to also be adoption day!

5️ - Meet & Greet Process :
🐕Meet outside— all family members and resident dogs (on leash and harness) must attend .
🐕 If going well, progress to the backyard (if available).
🐕 If still positive, move indoors— you take the lead and leash .

6️ - Finalizing the Adoption – If all agree it’s a match, the adoption is completed on the spot ! We will:
🎉 Take photos and videos to celebrate the moment.
🎉 Bring in all belongings to make the transition seamless.
🎉 Quietly sneak out to ensure the dog does not perceive the moment as being "left behind."

7️ - Post-Adoption Finalization – Once we return to the office, we will complete our part of the adoption agreement.

8️ - Microchip Transfers – We will update the microchip registration two weeks post-adoption to list you as the primary contact (to avoid additional transfer fees).
